IC Information
Character Name: Cu Chulainn, later Servant Lancer
Character Canon: [OU] Fate/Prototype
Character Age/Gender: ~6 around now
Canon Point: When he is a child, shortly after killing the hound that would become his namesake.
Character Canon History: Because Lancer is the same Heroic Spirit as his Fate/Stay Night incarnation, their past up to being summoned in the Holy Grail War is the same, as covered here. The Prototype version's history can be seenhere.

At his canon point, Lancer is a child of about six years old. Born the demigod son of Dechtire, the sister of the High King of Ulster, Cochobar MacNessa, and the god Lugh, he grew up under the care of Dechtire and her mortal husband Sualtam. When he was around five, his mother took him to Conchobar's court, where he became part of the king's Boy Troops (an ancient form of boy scouts).

One day, when Conchobar went to attend a feast at the house of Culan the Smith, he wanted to bring his nephew along. However, Setanta was at the time playing a game with his friends and told Conchobar he would come later, after his game was finished. However, the game dragged on into the evening, and when he went to Culann's house, it was already dark. Shortly before Setanta set off, Culan had asked his guests if they had anyone else coming. Conchobar forgot about what Setanta had said and told the smith that everyone had arrived. Thus, Culan set out his hellhound of a guard dog to watch his house while the guests feasted. When Setanta arrived, the dog pounced at him to tear out his throat. However, Setanta did not freeze in fear or run away. Instead, he fought back with the only weapons he had on him--his hurley stick and ball. He hit the ball so hard down the dog's throat that it choked and died.

Having heard the ruckus, the diners in Culan's hall came outside. There, they found Setanta standing over the dog's corpse. While everyone praised the child's courage and marveled at his slaying of the monstrous hound, Culan grieved over losing his prize dog. Hearing the smith lamenting that his house and flocks would now go unguarded, Setanta swore that he would serve as Culan's dog until a replacement dog could be found. The druid Cathbad, a valued advisor to the king, was also present at the feast. He announced that in honor of the boy's vow, Setanta would now change his name to Cu Chulainn, the hound of Culann. It is by this name that he would achieve his destiny as Ireland's greatest hero.

After this event, life goes back to normal for Cu Chulainn. He plays with his friends from the boy troops, learns things like poetry and playing fidchell from his foster fathers, and splits his time between his teachers and his parents. The only change is that his name is now different and he spends the later hours of his day watching over Culan's house. However, a few days after his life returns to its usual routine, he is transported to Saeng Seong.

Character Personality: Lancer’s personality is very much like that of his FSN counterpart, only younger, stupider, and more idealistic. As an adult, he is a very rough and wild, but straightforward and carefree man. As a child, he is even more rambunctious and carefree, having not yet learned to control his emotions. As an adult, he is described as a man who ran wild through Ireland, causing mayhem at top velocity each day. As a child, he is even worse at making mayhem, being more energetic and more easily bored. As a hero, one of the blessings available for him is sleeplessness, the ability to go for long stretches of time without a wink of sleep and still not tiring. This makes him even more energetic, seeing as how his bursts of energy can last for days and maybe even weeks.

His temper is certainly worse than his adult counterpart's. Cu Chulainn was born was an ability called the riastrad, or warp spasm. When he reaches a certain level of anger, he is swallowed up with berserker rage and his body twists into a monstrous form. At that point, he is no better than a beast craving blood. In legend, his first bout of berserker rage came about when the other members of the Boy Troops ridiculed him for just being a baby. Though he caused no casualties in the ensuing fight, as an adult this ability let him devastate entire enemy armies. As an adult, after seeing what he could do if he gave in to his rage, he usually tries to keep his temper somewhat in check and does his best not to enter into his riastrad. As a child, he has not yet learned this and thus snaps at the smallest provocation. Similarly, he easily enters into his riastrad state, though he does less damage than he would as an adult when berserking.

Not only does he give free reign to his anger, but he is straightforward with everything. He is very open with his emotions, wearing his heart on his sleeve. He is even more brutally honest than when he is an adult, having not yet learned tact. He says and does whatever he wants. Like his adult form, he is extremely stubborn. In addition, he is somewhat spoiled due to his happy background, loved by his mother, father, uncle, and several foster fathers who were all great heroes of the Red Branch. This all combines into a child who is vocal about what he wants and used to getting it. When his mother brought him to the training grounds of the Boy Troops, he was adamant about playing hurley with them, and even fought them when they bullied him. When Conchobar sought to take him to Culan's feast, he insisted on continuing to play with his friends, and later insisted on heading to Culan's house alone.

Like his adult form, he is impulsive. He jumps into things without thinking, like when he killed Culan's dog. Combined with the fact that he has not yet learned much about the world, this makes him look like an idiot. As an adult, he hates convoluted plans, and as a child, is even more averse to thinking hard about things. In addition, he is also proud of his strength and exhibits foolhardy courage. He trembled at neither the rest of the boy troops attacking him, nor the vision of Culan's monstrous dog. This exacerbates his tendency to rush into matters, since he believes he doesn't need to think it out. Despite his lack of book smarts, he is a fast learner, especially when it comes to matters dealing with martial skills. This quick learning stays with him as an adult; he mastered all of Scathach's arts within the course of one or two years and became her favorite student.

However, this is not to say that he is a completely undisciplined little brat. He is a good person at heart and has a sense of honor, however naive it might be. When he killed Culan's hound, he noticed the smith's grief and promised to serve as a substitute dog until a proper replacement could be found. Similarly, whenever he realizes something is indeed his fault, he will go to any ends to make up for it. He is a man of his word and treats promises as absolute. Again, after making the promise to Culan, he indeed served out his term acting as a guard dog. Like his older self, he has a strong sense of loyalty, though this is more to just his family and friends rather than a specific Master or cause. Here, his pride serves him well, as it motivates him to stick to the few rules that he has made for himself. Coupled with his loyal nature is an intense hate for traitors and liars. He himself rarely lies, and when he would rather not say something, chooses to give vague answers or omit key pieces of information.

Like his adult form, he is friendly and casual, even against people who might be his enemies. He makes friends easily. Even if it means he has to fight seriously against an opponent, this will not stop him from taking a friendly attitude toward them. While quick to rage, he is also quick to forgive and let go of grievances once his anger has been spent. For example, he held no grudge against the boy troops for attacking him and became quick friends with them. He also held no bitterness toward Culan or his uncle for forgetting that he would come to the feast.

Since he grew up with a loving family, he has not yet seen the really cruel aspects of the world. In his mind, the world follows a certain logic. Good guys will always win their battles somehow. Warriors called heroes treat each other with courtesy even when fighting against each other. Only those responsible for the crime should be punished. People remain loyal to their friends because they are friends. Even as an adult, this view is not shattered for a great deal of his life. He keeps on believing that since he is a hero, he can save everyone he sets out to save.

AU Information: To begin with, the purpose of the Grail is different than the one featured in Fate/Stay Night. While it is still a wishing machine, its true purpose is to hatch forward a creature called Class: Beast. The circumstances of the previous Grail War are different, as are the Masters in the current Holy Grail War. Ayaka Sajyou replaces Shirou Emiya and Misaya Reiroukan replaces Rin Tohsaka. Lancer knows nothing of Bazett, Kirei, or Shirou because he has never interacted with them.

As for Lancer himself, his history is essentially the same as that of Fate/Stay Night Lancer since they are both the same hero: Cu Chulainn. However, when summoned by Misaya, he is physically younger than his Fate/Stay Night incarnation, having been summoned at the peak of his fame. He looks to be around twenty or younger. His mind is similarly affected, being much more idealistic, impulsive, and naive to the unreasonable nature of the world than the Lancer of Fate/Stay Night. Another difference is that he will not have access to Gae Bolg due to Misaya sealing it away.

This information will not be relevant until after Lancer is updated. For his grown-up form in life, the journal [personal profile] redbranch will be used, while for his Servant form, the journal used will be [personal profile] puppy_lancer. The reason for the different journals is that Lancer is de-aged upon being summoned as a Servant. Here is a link to my app for [community profile] rubycity_rp so you can see how I will play him as an adult.

Character Abilities:

Lancer is a demigod and, as such, is stronger, faster, and tougher than any normal human. He is a child with a lot of energy and can go for several nights on end without sleeping and showing no fatigue for it. He possesses the ability to enter into the riastrad or warp spasm. When that happens, his mind is consumed with blinding rage and his body warps into a super-strong monster form. However, seeing as he is still a child, he is much weaker than he would be later in life. In addition, none of the abilities he has as a Servant are available to him right now.

Character Inventory: As seen in his icons, Cu Chulainn will be wearing a white tunic with embroidered borders belted at the waist. He also has dark brown pants and brown leather shoes. However, half the time, especially if he's playing, he'll run around wearing neither shoes nor pants. He also has a bronze arm ring. He'll have his hurling stick and ball with him.

Introspective:

It had been three days since he killed that giant dog. Three days, and he had gotten used to spending his nights at Culan's house, wearing the collar and watching the house. He had set out to do this as a job...and quickly found out it was rather nice. It turns out that guests took better to a cute little boy standing guard than a huge, monstrous dog. He had run into no few friendly people who took the time to pat him on the head or offer him snacks. Of course, the rare thief from just yesterday had also found out that just because the kid was cute didn't mean he was also weak. He had given the thief a harder beating than any dog could have and finally tied the scoundrel upside down in a tree.

His reputation among his friends had improved too. Even Folloman looked upon him with impressed eyes. In one night, he had gone from the runt who was stronger than he looked to the strongest member of the Boy Corps, period. He liked this new admiration. Everyone asked him what games to play. People like him be captain of the hurley teams. When they fighting games, he no longer had to play a horse's role because of his strength. Now they let him be the hero! Or the big villain! He enjoyed the attention very, very much.

It wasn't just his friends who admired him. The grown-ups too were proud of his decision. They certainly respected him as a hero, however young he was. This meant a few more responsibilities, like acting the way a hero should, but he didn't mind. After all, he had always wanted to be a hero. It make him feel like a grown-up, not the little baby he had been up until then.

However, what he couldn't get used to was the name change. No matter how he tried, he couldn't connect this new name of "Cu Chulainn" to himself. It felt strange, to have to answer to it. He knows he should be proud of his new name and full expect that after he's used to it, he'll wear it as badge of honor. Only the very best heroes earned their names through a feat of both power and integrity. Not even his uncle had such an honor, and his uncle Conchobar was the High King. But for now, he just wants to go back to being Setanta. Changing his name is a confusing process, even if it's one step toward a glorious future.

"Setanta, dinner~!"

Cu Chulainn turned toward the voice and pouted. One hand goes to lift up the wooden pail he was using as a helmet while he looks up at the speaker. There was only one woman in the entire world who still called him Setanta...and that was his mother.

"Awww, Mom, just a few more minutes? I'm playing Balor!"

His mother always called to him at the worst of times, when the game had hit its climax. Just a few more minutes and Balor would be slain. And then Cu Chulainn could go to dinner.

"Setanta, it's already getting dark."

He looks from his mother, to his friends, and then back at his mother.

"But Moooom...I don't wannaaaaa~."

His voice takes on a whining note. Already, he's annoyed with his mother. Being an official hero hasn't changed his temper for the better.

He might feel more grown-up, but when it comes to playing his games, he'd still like to be a kid.
